When talking about dental care in the school, SDF is even more controversial than FV. Are you recomending moving forward with this, and will there be guidance? Also, i have been informed (not sure) that glass ionomers are considerably more expensive than sealants. Is this also recommended in the school setting?
Primavera Hernandez
01:03:53

Prior to pandemic we have public health staff, apply fluoride varnish in a field setting like at health fairs or schools, is that allowable once the restrictions lift? Or will it need to be done in the providers office.

Ileisha Sanders
01:32:53
What does "up to 10% of approved budget"? DOes that mean we have to get a budger revision if it exceeds 10% of the budget category?
MaryEllen Rehse
01:33:36
I don't understand what that means either?
Dana Krinsky
01:33:50

Rita Chen
01:43:42
Does work plan/5th progress reports have to be updated and approved before LOHJ submit budget revision?
Julie Williamson
01:45:24

01:48:08
Any recommendations for LOHP’s having difficulty meeting OOH objectives because of being redirected to COVID activities. I am the program coordinator, but I have been contact tracing since April.

And it is not letting up
Jessie Harris
01:49:23
In order to have fit-testing brought to our County we need 5 people signed-up and we only have 4 dental providers (including RDH's) in the County. Can we allow other non-dental providers join so we can reach the minimum number?
Kim Celles
01:50:50
Kimberly.steele@cdph.ca.gov
MaryEllen Rehse
01:50:57
What if we have more than 10% left, it wasn't because of COVID but because our grant got started late? Will we lose that money?
Bhavvy Ducharme
01:51:04
Now I'm confused, is it the remaining of unspent funds for 19/20 that can be moved forward, or only 10% of the total budget?
Anna Shrode
01:51:29
Sorry everyone, I don't have a mic or video. I would be happy to share with anyone interested in the N95 fitting for Amador County dental providers.
Ileisha Sanders
01:51:41
Does that mean we can only carryover 10% of the unspent funds
Prasanthi patel
01:51:49
10% can be utilized for the COVID special response
Robin Cox
01:52:16
Kimberly - I think you are saying 10% of your total budget can be spent on COVID-19 related activities as defined and described today. Is that correct?
Kimberly Steele
01:53:23
For budget questions: kimberly.steele@cdph.ca.gov
Tara Crim
01:55:48
Any chance the budget revisions will be approved earlier (if submitted earlier?)… just thinking if/how we can move forward with COVID support to our schools/providers before the budget revision is approved.
Annapreet Hayer
01:57:39
Is there an interm grant manager/program consultant for those counties that had Jami?

Like many counties, in Marin, when we were forced to cancel our school-based oral health assessments for the spring, we decided to refocus our efforts to reach children through the food distribution programs at their elementary schools. We identified a toothbrush kit that includes a zippered bag, fluoridated toothpaste, two sizes of toothbrushes (one for K-2 and one for grades 3-5) and floss. Our program coordinator, Danika Ng, did the research on these kits and can provide information on the manufacturer and cost. We assembled the kits and included some of our social media messaging targeting children and their parents. The education includes games for children focusing on oral health and education for parents regarding oral health and the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment. We have distributed these in three of our major regions in the county and we are in the process of getting them into our most remote areas of the county. We have distributed 1,270 kits to elementary school children so far.

One of the activities that Yuba County did during this Pandemic was to have a virtual storytime/ oral health lesson on facebook live in partnership with the Library and First 5. This platform can be a beneficial tool to promote KOHA information/promote any screening events that LOHP's may have planned.
Tara Crim
02:15:13
Nevada County has also been invited to do a virtual storytime activity with our library... it's a great partnership!
Joanna Aalboe
02:17:28
Hi Julie. Excellent job refocusing your efforts through innovative activities and reaching so many children! Thank you
Laura McEwen
02:19:13
There is an initiative from AAP - Protecting Tiny Teeth. It provides a $5,000 payment for OB providers who track and educate about oral health to their patients. Application due mid-July. The application is very easy.
Jan Resler
02:19:33
Thank you, Laura!
Cathy Larsen
02:20:38
We work with First 5 to include infant oral health kits in their new parent kits
Therese McCluskey

Jan Resler
02:22:13
I agree, Therese!
MaryEllen Rehse
02:22:30
Is there a good example of what to include in the infant dental kits? What have other folks done?
Dana Krinsky
02:24:14
Dr Kumar mentioned we should all have local oral health data (or regional), but I have been unable to get oral health data from our local providers. Am I missing a place where this is provided online for everyone?
Kimberley Caldewey
02:26:02
We can send photo of all we put in infant oral health kits-to Joanna and CDPH staff. We provide the kit to the home visitors, and ask them to complete an evaluation survey with clients at about 1 month after the kit was distributed. We also survey the nurses to ask about the impact of the kit on knowledge and behavior.
Brendan Darsie
02:26:10
We are getting new data on dental visit among pregnant women by county in the next couple of months.
Cathy Larsen
02:26:33
We can send a photo as well!
Joanna Aalboe
02:26:55
Thank you Kimberley! We will share.
Roberto Terrones
02:26:58
When publishing data, please keep in mind the three cities that act as their own health jurisdiction--Berkeley (us), Pasadena, Long Beach.
Naomi Underwood
02:27:17
Ideas for counties with no prenatal providers (aside from WIC, First 5)?

Therese McCluskey
02:28:19
Can you share a link to Protecting Tiny Teeth? Haven't been able to find it on AAP website
Annapreet Hayer
02:28:33
We have been promoting brush, book , bed and peri-natal oral health to our local YubaWORKs classes. IF your county holds CalWORKs classes (may be done virtually now), it is a good place to promote medi-cal dental information, peri-natal oral health information, and infant oral health info. The individuals enrolled have to be parents, and usually they are parents of young children/of child bearing age. The response has been great. We also partner with our MCAH program to include peri-natal oral health info in the preconception health curriculum.
